A GIFT TOPPER in Bloom • Make a gift extra special by topping it with a selection of dried flowers. Wrap your gift as you normally do. Fold a piece of old book text, or sheet music into an envelope. (You can find a template for this on page 132.) Glue the envelope to the package, and then fill it with dried flowers.

"S-Mitten" WITH FLOWERS • No matter what climate you live in, you likely have a few pairs of mittens and gloves. If you have a pair to spare, consider turning it into a clever holder for flowers. Insert a small jar of water into each mitten, fill with flowers, and hang them somewhere for you to admire.

15 THINGS TO DO WITH OLD BOOKS

A SEED PACKET SURPRISE • Do you ever find yourself with leftover seeds when you’ve finished your planting for the season? Consider giving them to your friend who has a green thumb. Place the seeds on a scrap of old book text, and then wrap the seeds as you would a present. Tie a piece of twine around the package, and add a stamped tag to identify the different types of seeds.

ANTIQUE TEXTILE GOODNESS

A Clipboard FOR THE RECORD BOOKS • As much as it pains a bibliophile to see, sometimes books fall apart. Make sure no part of an antique book goes to waste by using a torn cover as the base for a clipboard. Secure paper to the book cover with a clip or — even better — a clip-on earring, and you’re all set!

Upcycled PACKAGING TAGS

A GOOD EGG Gift Wrap • If you’re looking for a way to wrap a bunch of trinkets, flower-seed bombs, or even small bath melts, look no further than your refrigerator. A cardboard egg carton is the perfect solution. You can tuck tiny treasures into each cup for safe keeping. To dress it up a bit, you can paint it, or do what we did here: crumple up a piece of old packing paper, wrap it around the carton, and tape it to secure. Cut an old postcard to size, and adhere it to the paper. Wrap a piece of twine around it, add a tag, and then tuck in a few dried flowers to complete the look.

Tins Transformed INTO PLANTERS • Antique or vintage food tins are easily transformed into planters by simply poking a few holes in the bottom to allow for drainage. Add a gorgeous touch of green to your kitchen by placing plants in old sugar or coffee tins.
